Why Rain Won't Ruin Your Brisbane Elopement:
My 5 Favourite Wet-Weather Backups
In Brisbane, we’re blessed with sunshine most of the year, but Mother Nature loves a surprise downpour. As an elopement planner and photographer, I make sure your “I Do” moment is stress-free and stunning—no matter what the sky is doing. If the clouds roll in, we don’t just “make do”—we pivot to a location that’s just as beautiful as your original plan. Here are my top five wet-weather backups for a Brisbane elopement.

1. New Farm Park: The Grand Rotunda
New Farm Park is iconic, but the real hero on a rainy day is the Heritage Rotunda. The Vibe: Elegant, historic, and romantic. The elevated floor keeps your dress dry, and the dark wood provides a moody, timeless backdrop. The Capacity: For a wet-weather plan, it comfortably fits 30 people undercover, making it one of the best park backups for a micro-wedding.

2. Newstead Park: The Intimate Riverside Rotunda
Just down the river, Newstead Park offers a "secret garden" feel that looks incredibly vibrant in the rain. The Vibe: Quaint and classic. It’s a sanctuary tucked away from the city with views of the river. The Capacity: A bit more intimate, this rotunda fits 15 guests comfortably, plus the couple and myself (your photographer!).

3. The Grand View Hotel: Bayside Heritage
Over in Cleveland, the Grandview Hotel offers a sophisticated coastal-heritage vibe that works perfectly for elopements. The Vibe: Sophisticated and versatile. You can choose their Heritage Private Dining Room for an intimate, upscale feel or their brand-new marquee if you’re looking for a more festive, airy atmosphere. The Bonus: It feels like a getaway without leaving the Brisbane area, and the bay views are stunning even when it’s moody outside.

4. Sure Thing Chapel: The Vegas Vibe (Capalaba)
If you want a "sure thing" (literally!), this is it. The Sure Thing Chapel in Capalaba is a quirky, Vegas-style wedding chapel that is entirely indoors. The Vibe: Fun, unique, and full of personality. It’s a dedicated chapel space, so you never have to worry about the wind or rain. The Bonus: It offers a BYO food and drink option, allowing you to host a fully personalized, private celebration in the same space immediately after you say "I do."

5. The Osbourne Hotel: Valley Chic
Located in the heart of Fortitude Valley, the Osbourne Hotel is a brilliant indoor alternative that doesn't sacrifice style. The Vibe: Modern, lush, and full of character. They have beautiful indoor spaces perfect for an indoor ceremony. The Bonus: You can transition straight from your vows into a celebration with their incredible food and drinks. It’s a seamless way to keep the party going without ever needing an umbrella.
My "Rainy Day" Promise
When you book your elopement with me, we always have a Plan B locked in. Whether we’re leaning into the romance of a heritage rotunda or the fun of a private chapel, your photos will be magic.
Rainy weddings are often the most memorable—and with these locations, they’re just as beautiful as a sunny day.
The Ultimate Brisbane Elopement Rainy Day Checklist
Keep this handy so you can focus on the “I Do,” not the downpour!
1. The Essentials (Stay Dry)
[ ] Clear Umbrellas: These are a must for photos! They let light in so your faces aren’t in shadow (I usually have a couple of spares in my car just in case!).
[ ] The “Dry Feet” Strategy: Bring a pair of cute leather boots or white sneakers for moving between locations. You can swap into your “pretty” shoes once we are under the rotunda.
[ ] A Large Towel: Keep one in the car to dry off your skin or any seating before you sit down for photos.
2. Style & Beauty (Weather-Proof)
[ ] Waterproof Everything: Ensure your mascara and eyeliner are waterproof. Humidity in Brisbane is the real deal during rain!
[ ] Hair spray & Bobby Pins: Rain usually means a bit of wind. Having a few extra pins to tuck away fly-aways will keep your look polished.
[ ] Blotting Paper/Powder: Rain and humidity can make skin look “shiny” rather than “glowy.” A quick dab before photos makes a huge difference.
3. The Logistics (Stress-Proof)
[ ] Printed Vows: Don’t rely on your phone! If it gets wet, the screen might play up. A nice card or paper looks better in photos and is “storm-proof.” Print them early too, just in case you lose connections.
[ ] Permit Check: If we’re using a public rotunda like New Farm Park, make sure your booking is confirmed so we have priority over other park users seeking shelter.
[ ] Clear Plastic Bags: Great for popping your bouquet in between shots or protecting your phone/valuables while moving.
4. The Mindset
[ ] Embrace the Vibe: Rainy day photos are incredibly romantic, moody, and unique. If you’re smiling and having fun, that’s exactly what the photos will show!
