If you’ve been hoping to tie the knot before the year is out, you might have just discovered that the Queensland Registry Office at Births, Deaths and Marriages isn’t taking any more wedding bookings for 2026.

Don’t panic, and don’t put your plans on hold until next year. You don’t need the registry office to get legally married in Queensland, and there’s still time to say “I do” in 2026.

At Elope Brisbane, we’re taking weddings right up until Tuesday 22 December 2026, and quick turnarounds are what we do best.

The Registry Office Is Booked Out – Here’s Your Alternative

A registry wedding has always been a popular choice for couples who want something simple, affordable and legal without the fuss of a big wedding. When those dates are gone, a lot of couples assume they’ll have to wait.

The good news is that a celebrant-led elopement or micro-wedding with Elope Brisbane gives you everything a registry wedding does – a fully legal marriage, your marriage certificate and an easy, stress-free process – plus a whole lot more:

  • A beautiful ceremony location instead of an office
  • A registered marriage celebrant who handles your legal paperwork
  • Set-up and styling taken care of, so all you need to do is turn up
  • Packages for just the two of you, or for a small group of your favourite people
  • A relaxed, personal ceremony that actually feels like you

Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate elopement in Brisbane, a garden ceremony on the Redlands Coast or something a little more adventurous on North Stradbroke Island, we can make it happen.

The Important Date: Lodge Your Notice of Intended Marriage by 22 November 2026

Under Australian law, every couple must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) with their celebrant at least one month before their wedding day.

That means if you want to get married this year, the last day we can lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage for a 2026 wedding is Sunday 22 November 2026.

To make that deadline, we’ll need your booking form in before then, so we can lock in your date, connect you with your celebrant and get your paperwork lodged in time. The sooner you book, the more date and location options you’ll have.

Married in a Month? Easy Peasy

Planning a wedding in a few weeks might sound impossible, but for us it’s business as usual. We regularly turn weddings around in around a month, and we’ve got the process down pat.

As a multi-award-winning elopement and micro-wedding business, recognised at the Australian Wedding Industry Awards year after year, we know exactly what needs to happen and when. You choose your package and date, and we take care of the rest.

How to Book Your 2026 Wedding

  1. Get in touch – send us an enquiry with your preferred date and the kind of wedding you’re after.
  2. Choose your package – from intimate elopements to small weddings with your nearest and dearest.
  3. Submit your booking form – this secures your date. Don’t leave it too late!
  4. Lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage – this must be done with your celebrant by 22 November 2026. Have your ID ready (such as your birth certificate or passport), plus proof of how any previous marriage ended, if that applies to you.
  5. Get married! – turn up, say “I do” and celebrate. It’s that simple.

Missed the Cut-Off? Book Early for 2027

Our last weddings for the year will be held on 22 December 2026, after which our team will be taking a well-earned break over the Christmas and New Year period. We’ll be back early in the new year and ready to make your 2027 wedding happen.

If you’ve missed the November cut-off, or you’d simply like a little more time to plan, now is the perfect time to secure your 2027 date before the most popular days are snapped up.

Yes. A registered marriage celebrant can legally marry you anywhere in Queensland. A celebrant-led ceremony with Elope Brisbane is just as legally binding as a registry office wedding.

Your Notice of Intended Marriage must be lodged at least one month before your wedding. That means you can be married in as little as a month from lodging your paperwork.

Your Notice of Intended Marriage must be lodged by 22 November 2026, and our final weddings for the year are on 22 December 2026. Get your booking form in as early as you can to secure your preferred date.

Yes. As long as your Notice of Intended Marriage is lodged on time and your ceremony is conducted by a registered marriage celebrant with two witnesses present, your elopement is a fully legal marriage in Australia. Just the two of you? We can help organise witnesses too.

Not at all! Our packages are designed for couples who want something small, simple and meaningful – from just the two of you to a small gathering of family and friends.

If your heart is set on getting married in 2026, don’t let a booked-out registry office stop you. With weddings available up until 22 December and Notices of Intended Marriage lodged until 22 November, there’s still time – but not much!

Get in touch with Elope Brisbane today, and let's make your 2026 wedding happen.
